Top 10 Hot Tips to Prepare for Your Next Media Interview (Part 2)

Earlier this week, we featured the first portion of basic media interview recommendations. Now let’s wrap up with another five hot tips:

  1. Ask questions of others who have encountered the reporter before. The more you learn about the reporter’s depth of background on your issue and interview style, the better prepared you will be.
  2. Remember that you are the expert. Go into your interview with confidence. Why would a reporter want to interview you if you lacked expertise?
  3. Arrive early for an in studio television interview. This allows you to get a feel for your interviewer and for the rhythms of the studio.
  4. Videotape all of your media training exercises. And don’t forget to review the video periodically as a learning tool. Also, insist that your communications training consultant use a professional videographer during your workshops.
  5. Maintain a positive outlook. Bad attitude may be the number one sin of bad interview subjects.

This list is by no means all-inclusive. Why not chime in on the comments section with words of wisdom you would add?
